“The smart crane”—many people might find it mysterious and feel it’s still far removed from their own lives.
When people think of "smart cranes," they often picture unmanned, automated container terminals—just as mentioning "smart cars" typically brings to mind the next generation of vehicles capable of self-driving. But these are isolated cases, mere experiments—not the norm. Widespread adoption remains a future goal.
In fact, automotive intelligence doesn’t have to wait for the future—today, we can already experience many smart car features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, distance warning systems, automatic hold, hill descent control, lane-change assistance, proactive braking, and even automated parking.
Crane intelligence isn’t mysterious at all—many of these smart features are already widely used today, such as automatic light-load high-speed operation, high-precision 3D positioning, anti-sway control, synchronization, load correction, automatic activation in case of brake failure, low-voltage adaptation, and even the "radius-load control" feature we discussed in last week’s "WeChat Official Account" post—among others. Best of all, all these intelligent functions can be implemented directly on the frequency converter, requiring no additional cost—or only minimal expenses.
There are also some smart cranes that require a bit of investment, but they’re not overly expensive. For example, tower crane group control— CMS (Crane Management System), such as IoT, and comprehensive signal monitors ......
"There's no strict boundary between a 'smart crane' and a 'regular crane'—the more intelligence a crane gains, the more it transforms from a 'regular crane' into a 'smart crane'."
With a little bit of ingenuity and some smart innovations, you might just take a step forward on the path to crane intelligence—and seize the upper hand in this new normal of sluggish demand for lifting equipment, securing both survival and growth!
